Created in the early 1970's, Lake Keowee sits at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its majestic beauty and surrounding moderate climate immediately made it a magnet for upscale retirement communities.
I refer to the northern section above Newry in the 306.02 census tract as Keowee Ridge as the land essentially rises from the shores of Lake Keowee bordering its western edge before descending to the banks of the Keowee River along its eastern boundary.
Keowee Ridge is a unique area of the Oconee County opportunity zones in that it is largely undeveloped land. The magnitude of this land lends itself to large-scale development.
